Shibori

About Class

Shibori is an ancient Japanese dye technique using folds, pleats,clamps and wrapping to create one of a kind, unique patterns on fabric. It is a good introduction to working with dyes on silk. No drawing skills required. It is useful for quilters who may want to have their own designs and can also be a good addition to a more advanced silk painters techniques. We will work on silk scarves, cotton and rayon.

Batik

About Class

Batik is a wax resist dye technique that originated in Java. We will work with traditional methods using the tjanting tool and contemporary methods such as Faux Batik allowing the beautiful crackle effect of the waxing to enhance our designs on silk scarves and silk and cotton yardage. All materials and supplies are provided by instructor.

Textile Printing

About Class

We will work with various textile print techniques such as stamping, wood block, gyotaku, and deconstructed screen printing, combining these techniques to arrive at some truly unique textile design on cotton and silk.
